Searchers looking for Turnip Gen8 V38 or a Turnip driver for Adreno 830 usually own an AYN Odin 3 / Odin 3 Portal (Snapdragon 8 Elite class / Dragonwing Q8). This page answers which zip to download, what the other files in the same release are for, how to install the driver in popular emulators, and when to stay on the system driver instead.

Custom drivers load per app through AdrenoTools. Nothing is flashed, and nothing needs root. Wrong-generation builds simply fail to load. For the full install screenshots across every app, see the Turnip driver guide.

Short answer

What "Turnip Gen8" means

StevenMXZ labels his Adreno 8xx Mesa Turnip builds Gen8 and counts versions (V35 → V38). The V38 release notes say the build comes from whitebelyash's turnip/gen8 Mesa branch plus upstream Mesa, reports Vulkan 1.4.363, and ships beside an R-series Turnip based on Mesa 27.0.0 for older Adreno chips. V38 is still the newest Gen8 Turnip tag on that repo as of November 6, 2026 (newer StevenMXZ tags since then are Qualcomm packages such as v891.14, not a newer Gen8 zip).

How to install (Eden, Dolphin, ARMSX2)

  1. Download the .zip on the handheld. Do not extract it.
  2. Eden: ⚙ Settings → GPU driver manager → Install → pick the zip → tap the driver to activate (or set it per game).
  3. Dolphin: gear → Graphics Settings → GPU Driver → Install driver → pick the zip.
  4. ARMSX2 / ARMSX3: side menu → Settings / App Settings → Renderer → Import under GPU driver.
  5. Xendroid+ / DroidDeck / PPSSPP: use each app's driver importer — step-by-step screenshots are in the main Turnip guide.
  6. Change one thing at a time. If graphics corrupt after a switch, clear that game's shader cache. If the game won't boot, select the system driver.

When to use the system (stock) driver instead

From our team: Christopher (Owner) uses Turnip Gen8 V38 daily on his Odin 3 Pro with Xendroid+. That does not mean every title prefers V38 — compare when a game looks wrong.

FAQ

Which Turnip Gen8 file should I download for the AYN Odin 3?

Download Turnip_Gen8_V38.zip from StevenMXZ's v27.0.0-R1 release. It is built for Adreno 8xx GPUs including the Adreno 830 in the Odin 3 and Odin 3 Portal.

What is Turnip_Gen8_V38_Patched.zip?

It is the same Gen8 V38 build with WinNative patches and hacks applied (per the release notes). Try it if a game misbehaves on the standard V38 zip, especially in PC-game containers.

Can I use Turnip_v27.0.0-R1.zip on Adreno 830?

No. That R-series file is for Adreno 6xx/7xx. On Adreno 830 use a Gen8 / a8xx-labelled build or a Qualcomm v8xx package.

Is there a newer Turnip Gen8 than V38?

As of November 6, 2026, V38 (October 19, 2026) is still the newest Gen8 Turnip tag on StevenMXZ/Adreno-Tools-Drivers. Newer tags such as Qualcomm Driver v891.14 are Qualcomm packages, not a newer Gen8 zip.

How do I install Turnip Gen8 in Eden?

Open Settings, GPU driver manager, tap Install, pick the zip without extracting it, then tap the driver to make it active. You can also set a driver per game.

How do I install it in Dolphin or ARMSX2?

Dolphin: Graphics Settings → GPU Driver → Install driver. ARMSX2/ARMSX3: Settings → Renderer → Import under GPU driver. Full screenshots for more apps are in the main Turnip guide.

When should I use the system GPU driver instead of Turnip?

Use the system driver when a custom package will not load, when you need a known-good baseline while debugging crashes, or when a specific game is clearly better on stock. Custom drivers are per app and do not flash the device.

What else should Adreno 830 owners keep installed?

Besides Gen8 V38, keep at least one alternate Turnip (whitebelyash Mainline v32 / Stable v2 or faux123) and a Qualcomm v8xx package such as v891.14, then compare per game.
