Turnip faux123 v1.1.9 is a new Adreno 8xx driver tuned and tested on the AYN Odin 3

2026-10-22 · By Overclocked Joe

There's a new custom GPU driver worth knowing about if you own a Snapdragon 8 Elite handheld. Turnip faux123 is a build of Mesa Turnip, the open-source Vulkan driver for Qualcomm Adreno GPUs, from developer faux123 (who also makes the device-specific PanVK builds for Mali handhelds and the FauxVkTest app). It's packaged as an AdrenoTools .adpkg.zip, so you load it in GameNative, Winlator, Eden or any app with a driver picker, with no root.

What's different about it

Most Adreno 8xx Turnip builds are cut from a community fork, because upstream Mesa support for the newer chips arrived later. faux123 builds from upstream Mesa main instead, adds fixes that aren't upstream yet, and names the exact Mesa commit in every release (v1.1.9 is built from dd45fd0). The developer says the upstream base turned out faster on tile-heavy work and can finish ray queries the fork can't.

What v1.1.9 changes

Released October 20, v1.1.9 follows v1.1.7 with:

Who it's for

Everything has been tested on one device: the developer's 12GB AYN Odin 3 (Adreno 830) on Android 15. It should load on Adreno 6xx and 7xx too, but those aren't tested and the developer makes no promises there. All 115 Khronos Vulkan-Samples scenes give the same result as the previous build. If something that worked on v1.1.7 breaks, the developer suggests going back to v1.1.7 and opening an issue on GitHub. As with any custom driver, keep a known-good one installed as a fallback.

You can grab it from the project's GitHub releases (import the zip as is, don't unzip it), and it's now listed in the Overclocked drivers directory under Adreno 8xx, alongside faux123's new PanVK builds for the Pixel 7 and GameForce Ace.
