TotK Recomp 0.3.4: Tears of the Kingdom runs as a native Windows and Linux game, Steam Deck included, with fixes for sound, amiibo and Intel GPUs

2026-11-02 · By Overclocked Joe

The fastest-growing native port this week isn't on Android. TotK Recomp, by valentderah, turns The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom into a native x86-64 PC game for Windows and Linux, and its GitHub repository has passed 4,000 stars in under a week. Version 0.3.4 came out on the morning of November 2 (Pacific time). Since 0.2.1 (October 31) it has shipped a Linux AppImage that also runs on SteamOS 3, so Steam Deck owners can build and play it in Desktop Mode.

What it is

TotK Recomp is a static recompilation: the Switch game's code is translated ahead of time into native PC code, and its graphics run on a Vulkan renderer, instead of being emulated while you play. That's the same idea as the MHGU, Breath of the Wild and Metroid Prime ports we cover, and the project credits LAS Recomp, nxnative, Ryujinx and others for the parts it builds on. The setup tool builds the game on your own machine from your own files. Features listed in the README include:

New in 0.3.4

To update, run the new installer on your existing install folder. It keeps your game files, saves and totk.ini.

What you need

Your own dump of Tears of the Kingdom from your own console: the base game plus the 1.1.0, 1.2.1 or 1.4.3 update. No game files are included, the project won't explain how to get them, and Overclocked doesn't link them. Don't share the finished build either, because it contains the game. On the PC side you need Windows 10 or later, or Linux 6.7+ with glibc 2.34+ (SteamOS 3 qualifies). You also need an x86-64 CPU with SSE4.2, a Vulkan 1.3 GPU and about 36 GB free during setup (20 GB after). That's a real squeeze on a 64 GB Steam Deck, so use a microSD card or a bigger drive. The project says it's in early development, with visual bugs and crashes still expected. Its author also says most of the code is written by AI coding agents under the maintainer's direction. We haven't seen published Steam Deck frame rates yet, so treat handheld performance as unverified. On Windows handhelds like the ROG Xbox Ally or Legion Go 2, use the Windows zip.

Two other TotK ports

TotK Recomp isn't the only one. Weeping of the Empire by daniel-madrid-07 rebuilds the 1.0.0 version of the game as a Windows-only port focused on PC controls. It has frame caps up to 240, DLSS, FSR 3.1 and mouse-driven menus, and v0.1.8.2 (November 2) fixes a fast-travel crash on 8 GB PCs. It needs your own dump and your own prod.keys. UltraTears by kuraeow is a third Windows port, built on version 1.4.3. Be careful with lookalikes: GitHub already has repositories promising a free TotK download. Those aren't these projects, and they either contain the game or something worse. Get TotK Recomp only from its official release page. More native ports are in our ports directory.
