Echoes Unbound 0.9 adds a map tracker and Light World music in Dark Aether, and Metroid Prime 0.39.0 brings flick stick and more Remastered effects
A day after the multiplayer update we covered on Monday, Odrannnn shipped new versions of both native Metroid Prime ports on the afternoon of November 2 (Pacific time): Echoes Unbound 0.9.0 for Metroid Prime 2 and Metroid Prime port 0.39.0. Both are built from the PrimeDecomp decompilations, so they run as real Android apps instead of through a GameCube emulator, and both ship an arm64 Android APK next to Windows, Linux, macOS and iPhone/iPad builds. Catch up with our 0.38.0 / 0.8.0 article.
Echoes Unbound 0.9.0
- Map tracker: pickup markers on the map (off, by room or every pickup) from F1 > Tracker, an optional revealed map, and a list of the rooms you've visited and haven't in each world. Handy for 100% runs.
- Light World music in Dark Aether (F1 > Enhancements > Music, off by default): each dark region plays its light-world theme. Boss and event music stay the same, and the change needs an area reload.
- Crosshair opacity up to 500%, to bring back the brighter crosshair from before 0.7.0.
- A flick stick prototype, and mouse aim no longer takes over a controller you're holding.
- Touch: the Visor and Beam wheels are now buttons you add to the touch layout, not an F1 checkbox. On Android, the left stick moves you forward again with Twin Stick Aim off, and LB is no longer taken by the touch layout's beam switching.
Echoes Unbound 0.9.0 fixes
- The Battleground fight no longer ends after four Ing kills.
- Chykka's spit attacks work again.
- The Dark Visor's red highlights stay inside the lens in widescreen, and the Morph Ball HUD's boss energy bar stays in its frame.
- Save states: loading one on a moving elevator in Dark Torvus Temple no longer leaves you stuck, and loading one in Mine Shaft no longer brings back enemies the room didn't have.
- Less water flicker and fewer missing draws on a first run, as the shader cache now covers both MSAA settings and more of the game.
Metroid Prime 0.39.0
- Controls: a flick stick prototype, R keeps the R-jump under mouse aim and twin stick, and mouse aim leaves a pad on the GameCube preset its classic controls.
- Third-person camera: shots now leave the cannon's bore, charge effects and the grapple beam form on Samus's body, and framing follows your screen shape.
- More Metroid Prime Remastered graphics: many more room effects play, now driven by Remastered's timers, triggers, relays and ambient spawners. Particles get better sorting (including against water), lighting and flipbooks, and visor effects like water runoff draw in Remastered's order.
- Fewer shader stutters: the pipeline cache now covers your MSAA setting, fog types and alpha refs.
- The empty-lock reticle marker stays on the view ray.
What you need
Your own disc image. Echoes Unbound takes Metroid Prime 2: Echoes (USA G2ME01, PAL G2MP01) or Metroid Prime Trilogy (USA R3ME01, PAL R3MP01). Metroid Prime takes the GameCube game (USA GM8E01 revisions 1.00 to 1.02, PAL GM8P01) or Trilogy. No game files are included, and Overclocked doesn't link any. The Android APKs are arm64, and Metroid Prime needs Android 9 or newer. Download only from the official release pages: Echoes Unbound 0.9.0 and Metroid Prime 0.39.0. More native ports are in our ports directory.
