Torchlight Rekindled brings the original Torchlight to Android and Switch with its Xbox 360 controls

2026-10-24 · By Overclocked Joe
Torchlight, Runic Games' 2009 dungeon crawler, hasn't been patched since 2011, and its PC version was built for a mouse and keyboard. Torchlight Rekindled, a new open-source (GPL 3.0) engine from GreenSwampDweller, runs it on Android, homebrew Nintendo Switch, iOS, Windows and Linux, following the game logic and controller-friendly interface of Runic's 2011 Xbox 360 port. Version 1.0.0 came out on October 20, and 1.0.1 and 1.0.2 followed on October 23.

How it works

It's a reimplementation, not an emulator: the engine draws with OGRE 14 and ParticleUniverse and reads the game's own data at runtime. You can feed it the Xbox 360 pak.zip, which brings the console HUD and menus, or a Pak.zip from any PC release (Steam, GOG, Epic or retail), which works with the port's own basic interface for now. A hybrid mode combines the PC archive with the Xbox interface files for the best of both.

What's new in 1.0.1 and 1.0.2

What you need

An arm64 device on Android 12 or newer and your own copy of the full game: pak.zip from the PC or Xbox 360 release, plus the music folder from your install if you want the level themes. The developer shows it running at 120 fps on a Galaxy Z Fold6; on-screen controls and gamepads both work. No game data is included, and Overclocked doesn't host or link game files.

Download the APK (or the Switch .nro and PC builds) from the project's GitHub releases; updating keeps your game folder and saves. Torchlight Rekindled is now in the Overclocked ports directory.
