Skyrim Android 0.30.6 is out now, and it fixes two of the port's most visible problems: the black world map and crashes on Mali devices. The unofficial native Android port of the original 2011 PC Skyrim, built by ttom795, landed the update on November 4, hours after 0.30.5.What's new
- A "Disable end-of-frame image space (post-processing)" option, which does the same thing as the TEOFIS console command at every launch. It fixes the black world map and the solid-colour underwater screen, but it also turns off all end-of-frame post-processing (tonemapping, bloom, colour grading and depth of field), so the game looks more naturally lit.
- An "Asynchronous rendering" option, off by default. With it on, shaders compile on background threads, so new effects may pop in for a frame or two instead of causing a hitch.
- Shader caching is gone. The DXVK state cache used to rebuild every saved pipeline on five extra threads at startup, which took CPU away from the game's main thread and caused crashes on Mali devices. Nothing is cached between launches now, and the game runs better overall, according to the release notes.
- Traps no longer freeze the game. The freezes came from failed lookups with vertex optimization, and that function has been turned off for now.
- Audio in other languages should work now. The decoder was reading each WMA bitstream with the wrong block-size config.
How it runs
- Skyrim Android is a static recompilation, not an emulator and not a decompilation: it converts the original 32-bit PC code (TESV.exe and several DLLs) into native ARM64 code, with a patched dxvk-native translating Direct3D 9 to Vulkan 1.1 and SDL2 handling the window, input and audio.
- You need your own copy of the original PC game: the Steam version, final patch 1.9.32.0.8, plus its Data folder and the executable and DLL files listed in the instructions. The repository contains no game code or data. Special Edition will not work, and DLC and mods remain untested.
- Requirements are Android 9 or newer, an ARM64 device, Vulkan 1.1, at least 3 GB of RAM and about 7 GB of free space. The developer tests on a Snapdragon device with an Adreno 610 GPU (Retroid Pocket Duo Lite), where Low detail is the default the hardware can manage.
- The port has moved fast since it appeared in late October: 0.23 added custom GPU driver selection (Turnip, Mr. Purple's Adreno builds, or any driver zip with a meta.json, loaded with libadrenotools), 0.25 added a frame-rate cap and rebuilt touch controls, and 0.25.1 fixed a crash that hit after 10-15 minutes of play.
- We haven't tested it ourselves yet. See our compatibility database for how it runs on handhelds we've tried.
