Metroid Prime 0.40.0 and Echoes Unbound 0.10.0 add seamless item pickups, sprint and map pan controls

2026-11-03 · By Overclocked Joe

Odrannnn kept up the pace on both native Metroid Prime ports. On the afternoon of November 3 (Pacific time), a day after the 0.39.0 and 0.9.0 builds we covered, Metroid Prime Port 0.40.0 and Echoes Unbound 0.10.0 landed with the same headline feature: pickups that no longer stop the game. Both run natively on Android (arm64 APK), Windows, Linux, macOS and experimental iOS, with no emulator.

Seamless item pickups and sprint, in both games

Turn on Seamless item pickups (off by default, and off in the Original experience preset) and grabbing a missile expansion or energy tank no longer freezes your controls or plays the item cutscene. The pickup message shows as a small HUD note while you keep moving, which makes backtracking runs feel much quicker. Both ports also give the Custom walk speed its own on/off switch. Bind it to a custom action and it works as a sprint toggle; Echoes adds a While held mode so a held button sprints at your chosen speed.

Map controls that stay out of your way

Map rotate and Map pan now have their own bindings that only act on the map screen, so WASD or a stick can pan the map without touching your gameplay layout, and the on-screen prompts follow your choice. In Echoes you can also tap or click a room on the area map to select it, and the crosshair now stays visible while you aim freely under a lock-on. On Android, custom actions finally show up in the touch layout editor in both games.

More Remastered polish in Prime, fixes in Echoes

Metroid Prime 0.40.0 adds a long list of Remastered particle features, lens flares that fade behind walls instead of shining through them, blue healing nodules in the Omega Pirate fight and room effects that match Remastered more closely. Echoes Unbound 0.10.0 fixes orange and white bands from the Echo Visor near Quadraxis, door cutscenes replaying after a save state, the red-tinted multiplayer results screen and a memory corruption bug in particle effects. Both start faster, most of all on Android, because the shader cache no longer checks every page at launch. Echoes is still an early build and the developer warns save states are not fully stable, so keep real saves too.

What you need

You must own the game. Prime needs your own disc image (GameCube USA GM8E01 or PAL GM8P01, or Wii Metroid Prime Trilogy R3ME01/R3MP01); Echoes needs G2ME01, G2MP01 or Trilogy. No game files come with either port, and Overclocked doesn't host or link them. Grab the builds from the release pages below, and see our ports page for every Android port we track.
