Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days gets a native Android port built for the AYN Thor's two screens
How it works
This isn't a DS emulator. khdays-port is built on a decompilation of the game: the original game logic, rebuilt as readable C, is compiled for the target device, and a new platform layer replaces what the DS hardware did, including graphics, sound, input and save data. The Android version follows that PC port, so fixes from upstream come along with it. The latest betas are built on khdays-port 0.1.4, which restores the Stop magic the DS version left unfinished (you can switch it off) and cleans up the sound.
What's in the Android build
- Both of the Thor's screens are used, as on the DS.
- The game opens straight in after the first setup, and pressing Home or putting the device to sleep no longer restarts it.
- Optional HD cutscenes and menus, which you make on a Windows PC from your own copies of Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX (and HD 2.8 for the HD menus), then copy over.
- The app checks GitHub for new betas and offers to update itself.
What you need
Your own .nds ROM of Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days, from the European or North American cartridge. Install the APK, pick the ROM, and the app checks and unpacks it on the device; that takes about 400 MB of free space. In the game, pressing the left stick opens the settings. The downloads include no ROM, assets or game code, and Overclocked doesn't host or link game files.
Beta 4 fixes the in-app updater, which failed in betas 1 to 3. If you're on one of those, install beta 4 by hand once over your current copy; it keeps your game, HD files and saves. It's still a beta, and some issues, such as dark corridors that can flicker for a frame, come from the shared PC code and should be reported upstream. Get it from the project's GitHub releases. It's now in the Overclocked ports directory. Today's directory updates also add online rollback netplay to Knuckles' Chaotix Recompiled and sound fixes across codepdbh's Need for Speed Android ports.Related on Overclocked
