hakuX 1.3.0 brings original Xbox Live back on Android through Insignia, plus fixes for Halo 2, Fable and Morrowind
Three days after hakuX 1.2.0 added system link and XLink Kai, the Android original Xbox emulator is going online properly. hakuX 1.3.0, released on GitHub on October 31, connects to Insignia, the community revival of the original Xbox Live service, so Live-enabled games can sign in, find matches and play online from an Android phone or handheld.
How the Xbox Live setup works
- Pick Insignia under Settings, Network, Connection, Xbox Live.
- A new Xbox Live setup page walks you through each step: the connection, the Xbox dashboard, registering the console with Insignia's Setup Assistant (which hakuX downloads for you), then creating or recovering your account in the dashboard.
- A Dashboard button in the library starts the Xbox dashboard from the virtual hard disk. The first time, it installs the dashboard from a zip of its files that you supply; hakuX doesn't include it, and we don't link it.
- Title updates you download through Live now load with the game, and Forza Motorsport's 60 and 120 fps mods cover the updated version too.
Game fixes
- Fable: The Lost Chapters: the hero's face and arms no longer render black or as noise.
- Morrowind: no more freeze when leaving a building, and the inventory character draws correctly.
- Halo 2: fog no longer shows as moving stripes, and the scope's surround is dimmed properly.
- Def Jam: Fight for NY no longer freezes at the intro, because the game's clock now waits while hakuX compiles shaders.
- Burnout 2, Amped 2, Project Zero II (PAL), Double-S.T.E.A.L, Soldier of Fortune II and Touge R get crash or black-screen fixes, Munch's Oddysee loses a dark box under shadows, and Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks models no longer explode on Mali-G57 GPUs.
Should you update?
Yes, especially if you play on a Retroid, AYN or other Android handheld: the network CPU fix alone helps anyone using system link. hakuX is a free APK on GitHub. You still need your own Xbox BIOS, dashboard files and game dumps; Overclocked doesn't host or link any of them. More Xbox options are on our emulators hub.
