Def Jam: Fight for NY gets a native Android port, now at v1.3 with online play and voice chat
How it works
This isn't an emulator. The app runs the game natively with asynchronous Vulkan rendering, touch layouts in Xbox, PlayStation or custom styles with dual analog sticks, physical controller support and menus in English, Portuguese and Spanish. It also has a built-in ISO/XISO extractor.
What's new in 1.3
- Online with Discord sign-in through the FFNY Online account service, plus a Europe or North America region pick (both players need the same one).
- Android players can find PC lobbies again after a fix to the build fingerprint used for room discovery.
- Push-to-talk room voice chat that works with the PC version.
- Real analog sticks are back in the custom fight layout.
- An optional Fix Mali / PowerVR setting in the launcher for GPUs with rendering problems. It's off by default and can cost FPS, so leave it on Default on Adreno.
- The launcher can check for new releases.
What you need
Android 10+ on an ARM64 device and your own original USA Xbox disc or ISO, fully extracted. Put the complete game contents in /storage/emulated/0/DefJamFFNY/game/ so default.xbe sits there, or use the built-in extractor. An ISO or default.xbe alone won't work. To update, install the new APK over the old one and don't uninstall or clear app data, so your saves stay. No game data ships with the download, and Overclocked doesn't host or link game files.
Closed source
The repo is a documentation and release hub: it publishes the APK and docs, but the app's source code isn't published.
Other ways to play
Two source-available recompilations of the same Xbox game are also out: defjam-sw for the Nintendo Switch (custom firmware) and Linux, and DefJamFFNY-recomp for Windows, macOS and Linux, including the Steam Deck. Both need your own USA Xbox copy.
We haven't tested it ourselves yet. Download it from the project's GitHub releases. It's now in the Overclocked ports directory.
